R&J Appliance Co. began in 1971 when Russ Eldeb was recruited by orthopedic physicians in the Ventura County area to start a local facility. Russ, a knee disarticulation amputee, trained as an Orthotist/Prosthetist at UCLA under the guidance of the LA-based Veteran’s Administration, where he had been a patient. While at the VA, Russ met Judy Eldeb, a unit secretary in the prosthetic ward of the VA. Russ and Judy married, and it was Judy who made the “J” in their new company, and R&J Appliance Co. was born. Over the years, R&J Appliance Co. became a full family business with Russ and Judy’s daughters and son-in-law (Joe Kearns) working in the office.
