A lifelong resident of Simi Valley, Daren has always enjoyed being a mechanic, working with hands and dirt bike riding. In April of 2018 Daren was in an off road accident that left his leg severely damaged and had to be amputated below the knee. His first prosthesis was with a company near Los Angeles but it was incredibly uncomfortable. “I was dealing with limb wounds and pain from the poor fit and alignment” said Daren. Being mechanically inclined, he started to work on trying to fit his prosthesis himself. Eventually he found R&J to make next prosthesis and was amazed at how comfortable it was. Likewise, we were impressed at what Daren had accomplished in working with his leg. R&J was in need of an extra tech who could be taught the rigors of orthotic making and Daren fit the position perfectly. Not only was he gifted with his hands, he could empathize with our patients and knew what the smallest adjustments could make with orthotics. When not creating and modifying orthotics, you will find Daren enjoying being with his wife and two dog, fishing, and motocross riding.
