R&J Prosthetics and Orthotics, and our parent company Achilles Prosthetics and Orthotics are the only prosthetics and orthotics companies to use the Symphonie system on the Central Coast and the Central Valley in California.
The Symphonie Aqua System allows the practitioner to:
- Consistently and efficiently capture an accurate impression of limb exactly as it would be under weight-bearing conditions
- Know about sensitive and problem areas before the socket is created.
- Facilitate maximal clinical efficiency by reducing or eliminating the need for cast modifications and multiple check socket fittings.
- Increase patient satisfaction via increased comfort and faster functional progression
How a prosthesis fits depends primarily on the quality of the cast as well as modifications and finish. Limb comfort, Control, and suspension are greatly determined by the plaster impression. Face it, if you are not comfortable in your socket you are not going to want to wear it and live the physical life you want to.
For the first time ever, the innovative Symphonie Aqua System has made it possible to determine your residual limb’s burden within the prosthetic socket under actual conditions and to produce a properly fitting plaster impression while bearing full weight. When applying this technology, optimal hydrostatic pressure takes place, allowing the individual bodyweight a perfectly even transfer onto the stump while making the plaster impression. The residual limb shape determines the socket form. The full contact provides better proprioception. Consequently, the plaster impression is already able to provide a realistic image of the tissue and the bony structures. When making the plaster impression, the patient is already capable of burdening the stump with his/her entire body weight. At this point, valuable information has already been obtained regarding shaft volume, bony structures, and sensitive pressure areas. The resulting stump compression also simplifies cast modification. Under a full load, the hydrostatic pressure in the cylinder counteracts the patient’s body weight and compresses the stump’s surface. Consequently, the “total surface weight bearing” of the stump surface has been achieved.
